ain’t ego-tripping just documenting..

more kind words!! this time via the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist STEVE STRONG:

“Im not one for writing, or reviewing things, but i need to tell you about this record    Ive had the pleasure of hearing bits of this record at times while recording my solo album in the studio, and also on a Tinny car stereo once or twice, i was well happy to recieve one of the ltd 100 promo copies of the full album last week    RECOVERY SUITE  instantly grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you for your attention, but at the same time this is very much an album that unfolds and makes perfect sense in its entirety  flowing into your ears in a calm and subtle way. ive not ‘Felt’ a record like this since ‘De-Loused in the Comatorium’ by the mars volta, very rarely music makes me this exited - its perfectly formed, and is dilivered with such passion and integrity, its a cross between Hip-Hop/Electronica and in many ways prog rock, it encompases many diffeent styles but is executed in a way that is really unuiqe and powerful, you can hear Radiohead & Jagga jazzist esk parts in there somewhere as well as the swagger and style of such artists like  DJ Shadow, Four tet ect..   the sounds are perfectly produced with high impact but still keeps the acoutic feel many of the parts played on drums, and piano and then tinkered with to cover both acoustic and electronical sounds,  some haunting and beautiful vocals add texture too. such tracks as ‘not so well adjusted’ makes your arms and neck tingle with the feeling of beauty and others like ‘The Letting go’ will have your head moving and you  grinning like crazy. Its an album that is very easy to let become a part of you.. i have listened to it 2 or 3 times a day since i received it.. it sits well in your mind no matter how you’re feeling. Its the sort of music that will appeal to all sorts of music lovers.   im confident this album i will still be playing in years and years to come but will still feel fresh, if i had made anything even half as good as this record i would be so proud, my pride oozes out for COLLATONE and he still remains Modest about this record..   i strongly urge you to check this album out, you can hear a taster of a few tracks here http://www.facebook.com/COLLATONE“

FIRST RECOVERY SUITE REVIEW

Feeling very honoured to have such kind, unprovoked words written about my music, much love to Patrick @ http://cargocollective.com/ouf for my first review:

“So after bumping into Jay, aka COLLATONE, and talking at length about music and gadgets outside the Rabbit one Thursday evening, he sent me his new album, which he tells me he has only just revealed to the wider audience after a lot of work and love.

As i sit here writing this I’m haunted by this dazzling array of pretty much damn perfectly mixed electronic music. Now I’ve studied this shit, and delved into the world of electro-acoustic comp, so I’ve seen the outer boundaries of what can be classed as electronic music… COLLATONE reminds us that we can make coherent beats, digestible melodies, and still go about it with a vast sense of musicality and irrational artistic license. It feels like when you’re fucking starving and you’re presented with little plates of damn fine posh grub, one after the other. The attention to detail and mix are staggering, the drum samples are natural yet retain a great repetition, and He doesn’t seem to be afraid of eclecticism in the slightest. In particular the use of choral work and symphonic ideas. I could listen to this over and over again, and still feel hungry, although not what i’d naturally listen to, i think that you all should widen your minds and arms towards this young Plymouth talent. It’s certainly graced my pluggers.”
